PEOPLE has named actor Johnny Depp as its 2009 Sexiest Man Alive.  The ”Pirates of the Caribbean” actor became the third man to hold the honor twice (Brad Pitt and George Clooney being the others). Depp first earned the title in 2003.

Also honored in the special issue, on newsstands Friday, are actors Rob Pattison, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bradley Cooper.

PEOPLE’s morning announcement landed Depp on the Trending Topics list as tweeps responded with varied reactions:
