The “New Moon” cast has plenty to howl about. The film opened this weekend and posted record-breaking sales giving “New Moon” the biggest fall opening in history. The celebration doesn’t stop there. EW.com reports the film, “grossed an astounding $140.7 million at the box office this weekend,” earning the movie “the third biggest three-day debut ever, according to early estimates from Hollywood.com Box Office.” “The Dark Knight” and “Spiderman 3″ hold the top two spots.

“New Moon” also toppled the success of the franchise’s first film “Twilight,” by “outright doubl[ing] Twilight’s opening weekend of $69.6 million.”

Sandra Bullock’s “The Blindside” also experienced success this weekend, earning “an estimated $34.5 million for second place.” It’s the best opening of  Bullock’s career, beating the record she set just earlier this year with “The Proposal.”

Disaster movie “2012″ dropped “59 percent on its second weekend, taking in $26.5 million for $108.2 million total and third place.” The animated movie “Planet 51″ and “A Christmas Carol” took fourth and fifth place, respectively.
