CBS Cancels ‘As the World Turns’

Another soap opera will be leaving the airwaves come fall of 2010. According to EW.com, CBS has decided to end the 54-year run of “As the World Turns” in September. ATWT exec producer Chris Goutman released a statement saying, “We are disappointed and saddened by the news that the show is not being renewed. It will certainly be a loss for all of us, and for the show’s loyal audience.”

CBS’ “Guiding Light” finished its 72-year run earlier this year. These cancellations will leave only six soap operas on the air, though that could become five if rumors are true and ABC cancels “One Life to Live.”
