“Avatar” Tops the Box Office

The highly-anticipated 3-D sci-fi action film, “Avatar,” opened in first place this week with roughly $73 million in box office receipts, reports EW.com.  Despite a blizzard on the East Coast, the film had a “solid opening,” albeit below initial expectations.

Last week’s number one film, “The Princess and the Frog,” dropped 50 percent to second place with $12.2 million while Sandra Bullock’s “The Blind Side” came in third place with $10 million.

Tweeps have been overwhelmingly positive towards the box office films, especially “Avatar”:
