CNN Unsure About Future with Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin is oh-for-two when it comes to keeping the cable airwaves obscenity-free. For the second year in a row, the reality star/comedian uttered a profane word during CNN’s live New Year’s Eve coverage with Anderson Cooper and CNN isn’t sure what they want to do about it. Rumors swirled Tuesday that Griffin was banned from CNN’s airwaves, but a spokesperson for the news network has stated otherwise.

“Stories about Kathy Griffin being banned from CNN are incorrect,” CNN rep Shimrit Sheetrit told TVGuide.com. “No decisions have been made regarding next year’s show.”

Thanks to Griffin’s slip up in 2008, she agreed to forfeit her paycheck if she, “were to say another live television no-no.” It is not clear when CNN will make a decision.

Griffin appeared on the “Late Late Show” with Craig Ferguson on Tuesday night to discuss the New Year’s Eve incident. According to EW.com, “Griffin says ‘f–’ three times in this conversation alone.” Ferguson did not shy away from using the f-word either.

  • Aww, CNN knows exactly what it's getting with Griffin. After 2009's, er, phallic-language incident, post curse-bomb conversations like this are exactly what they want. CNN producers are not stupid--Griffin is only there for the publicity and she's apparently earning her keep this year!
