“American Idiot,” the musical inspired by Green Day’s album of the same name, will make its Broadway debut on April 20 at the St. James Theater, EW.com reports.  Directed by Tony-award winner Michael Mayer, “American Idiot” had an extremely successful run in Berkeley, Calif. before setting its sights on New York.

While the band doesn’t appear in the production, it is responsible for the book and the lyrics used. The show follows several characters as they become disillusioned with suburbia, the government and their own lives.

Many tweeps have expressed their desire to see the musical on Broadway, while others have questioned the show’s merits:
