Spider-Man 4 Canceled, New Film Planned for 2012

According to Deadline Hollywood, “Spider-Man 4″ has been canceled after director Sam Raimi pulled out of the project. Instead, Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios are “rebooting” the franchise, with a film focusing on Spider-Man’s alter-ego Peter Parker as “a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.”

Spider-Man 4 was to star Tobey Maguire in the title role, a character he played in the previous 3 films of the same name. The newest edition was expected to be released in 2011 but was recently put on hold due to creative differences. The new developments mean Maguire and his fellow castmates are out, while this new film will head into production with a new team attached to it. The anticipated release date is summer of 2012.
