Compiliation CD for Haiti Released, Telethon Performers Announced

Musical group Linkin Park has organized a compilation CD to benefit Haiti’s earthquake victims, EW.com reports.  The compilation, “Download to Donate” features unreleased songs from Dave Matthews Band, All-American Rejects, Alanis Morrisette, Lupe Fiasco, Peter Gabriel, and Slash, among others.  Linkin Park’s own contribution to the CD is a song they recorded for their 2007 album, “Minutes to Midnight,” but never completed.

Though Linkin Park had a vested interest in providing aid to Haiti prior to the earthquake, through their non-profit organization, “Music for Relief,” the band has no plans to organize a benefit concert. The CD can be purchased on the Music For Relief Web site. According to the site, “100% of funds received will support those affected by the tragic earthquake in Haiti.”

Tweeps are encouraging others to support the cause by purchasing the album and those who have heard tracks from the album say they liked what they’ve heard.

In other benefit news, the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon performers have been announced, according to PEOPLE.com.  In New York, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Shakira and Mary J. Blige will take the stage.  Los Angeles’s star-studded cast of performers includes Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder and a trio of Keith Urban, Sheryl Crow and Kid Rock.  Finally, in London, Rihanna, Sting, Coldplay, Jay-Z and The Edge will perform.

The Twitterverse is abuzz with speculation that Kanye West was deliberately not invited to perform during the telethon, since he infamously lashed out at then-president George W. Bush during a telethon for Hurricane Katrina:
