Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne Join L.A. “American Idol” Auditions

On last night’s “American Idol,” aspiring singers auditioned to be the next up and coming pop star — and this time, they did it in front of two well-known singers from the Top 40 world. Avril Lavigne joined Randy Jackson, Kara DioGaurdi and Simon Cowell on the judging panel.

Decked out in punk-rock gear and a devil-horned hoodie, Lavigne was not a favorite in the Twitterverse last night. Katy Perry was more popular, but more so for her glowing good looks and putting DioGaurdi in her place than for her judging, which was harsh at times.

“Idol” fans were also tweeting about the bizarre ten-second cameo of Daniel Franco, two-time “Project Runway” contestant. Some were unsure if the 38-year-old was really Franco, but MTV confirmed that it was in fact the designer, although he is 10 years over “Idol”’s supposed age limit. Most tweeps were ridiculing him for trying to get back in the limelight:
