Tuesday’s “American Idol” featured the much-awaited first two days day of “Hollywood Week.” 181 potential stars, who were selected from auditions in seven cities, converged on the Kodak Theater, where they gave it all they had to get through to the next round.

Also very anticipated was the debut of comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as one of the show’s permanent judges. “Idol” viewers tweeted their reviews of the newest judge, whose comments mostly came as comedic quips rather than critiques.

A few standout singers were highlighted on last night’s show, all of whom were getting some serious buzz in the Twitterverse. Andrew Garcia’s acoustic rendition of Paula Abdul’s classic “Straight Up” has been getting raves, along with dreadlocked Crystal Bowersox, who delivered a gritty version of Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel.” Both Twitterville favorites were among the 95 contestants to advance to the group performance round.
