“The Jay Leno Show” Airs Last Episode

Before returning to the helm of “The Tonight Show,”  Jay Leno had some loose ends to tie up. Tuesday Leno hosted the last episode of the ill-fated “The Jay Leno Show,” reports MTV.com. The host jokingly said, “This show was supposed to last two years, but my sentence was reduced to five months for good behavior.”

His opening monologue tackled some usual fodder–President Barack Obama, the John Edwards sex scandal and Sarah Palin’s hand notes at the Tea Party convention. Afterward he took time out from his usual routine to show a montage of clips of infamous events during the show’s run, such as a tweaked tape that made it look as though Kanye West punched Leno in the face and walked away. Donald Trump also made a surprise appearance via satellite to use his famous line, “Your fired!”

The in-person guests included “Valentine’s Day” actor Ashton Kutcher, Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe of “Precious” and sports journalist Bob Costas . While Sidibe seemed genuine when discussing how much her life has changed due to the movie, Kutcher added more comic relief. Costas was the last guest and the show’s last person to partake in the 10@10 segment, during which Leno asks 10 questions the guest has to answer.

In the show’s closing moments, Leno thanked Costas for his time and prepared to give his final closing monologue.  But as Leno started, the show abruptly ended and the 11 o’clock news came on.

In the Twitter nation, some were pleased to see the show end and some are happy Leno is returning to his his old late night gig:
