The three -and-a-half minute re-recording of “We Are The World” debuted Friday night during the opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The song played as images from earthquake-stricken Haiti appeared alongside footage from the song’s star-studded production earlier this month.

The original version was written in 1985 by the late Michael Jackson and fellow musician Lionel Richie, who assisted with producing the re-recording, titled “We Are The World – 25 For Haiti.” In ‘85, the song brought together 30 renowned musicians. This time, about 80 stars, including Justin Beiber, Jennifer Hudson, Pink, Celine Dion, Kanye West, the Jonas Brothers, Barbara Streisand, Lil’ Wayne and many others, joined together in order to show support  for the people of Haiti.

The re-recording has the Twitterverse taking sides: while there is immense support for Haiti, many say they prefer the original recording rather than the new one:
