“Shutter Island” Opens Big at Box Office

The Martin Scorsese-directed horror flick “Shutter Island,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, took first place at the box office this weekend, reports EW.com.

The movie took in more than $40 million in its opening weekend, perhaps a result of having no other new wide releases to compete with, or perhaps because fans were so excited to see it after the release was postponed from October last year.

The star-packed romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” suffered a nearly 70 percent drop from last week but managed to rake in the second-highest amount at the box office this weekend, while “Avatar,” in its 10th weekend, came in third.
