“The Hurt Locker” Producer Barred from Oscars

A week after sending out his now infamous e-mail to Oscar voters, asking them to pick his movie “The Hurt Locker” over “Avatar” as Best Picture, producer Nicolas Chartier has been banned from attending the Oscars this Sunday, reports EW.com.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced their decision on Tuesday, stating that the producer broke the Academy’s ban against creating a negative campaign against fellow nominees. In a press release the Academy stated, “Academy rules prohibit casting a negative or derogatory light on a competing film.” If the film does go on to win Best Picture, Chartier will still receive an Oscar but it will be off-camera.

Chartier later issued an apology saying, “My naivete, ignorance of the rules and plain stupidity as a first-time nominee is not an excuse for this behavior, and I strongly regret it.”

In the Twittersphere some felt that justice was served other believed that rules were meant to be broken.
