Yes, you have read correctly – according to CNN, the rocker will be the host of this year’s CMT Music Awards on June 9. And what is the promise, straight from the mouth of Kid Rock, to those who plan on watching the show? “All I can promise is that I will be awesome.”

Though Kid Rock is not necessarily synonomous with country music, he does have experience. Last year, his song “All Summer Long” won a CMT award in the Wide Open Country video of the year category. Kid Rock also has some close country star pals, and in 2001, taped “CMT Crossroads” with Hank Williams Jr.

CMT promotes itself as the only fan-voted awards show in country music, and fans can still vote for their favorite artists at the official CMT Web site. The first round of voting ends May 3. Until then, the Twitterverse is abuzz with CMT’s choice of the host. Unfortunately, the vast majority are disappointed.
