“The Nightmare on Elm Street” is back to prove that re-makes can still survive in Hollywood. The horror film brought in $32 million this weekend, according to The Hollywood Insider, and secured its place as number one in the box office. Despite its secure lead, the film’s earnings fell sharply between Friday and Saturday, with audiences only giving it a C+ overall rating.

Second place for the weekend belonged to the surprise hit “How to Train Your Dragon.” The 3-D film grossed 10.8 million dollars, while the third place comedy “Date Night” took in an additional $7.6 million this week. Brendan Fraser’s new family comedy “Furry Vengeance” earned $6.5 this weekend, but audiences seemed to respond positively to the film, giving it an overall score of B+

Anticipation lies with the release of “Iron Man 2″ next weekend. The film is expected to set some box office records. It has already debuted in 53 territories this weekend and has brought in $100.2 million.
