Soon there may be more “American Idol” hopefuls being driven to auditions by their parents. CNN.com reports that the reality competition show has lowered the minimum age for contestants from 16 to 15.

The show’s executives are saying that they want to give younger, talented performers a chance as well. This change will go into effect when Season 10 auditions start on July 17 in Nashville.

The once highly rated show showed a slipping in ratings this past season. This lowered age minimum may attract more younger fans and boost the show’s viewership.

Tweeps, including Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks, are discussing the pros and cons of this change.
