George Takei of “Star Trek” fame and his husband, Brad Altman, will be the first gay couple to appear on GSN’s “The Newlywed Game,” according to TVGuide.com.

The second season of “The Newlywed Game” will begin on Oct. 12 on GSN, and the couple will tape their episode soon. Takei and Altman married last September and have been together 22 years.

Host Carnie Wilson said that featuring gay couples on the show is “needed at this point,” and has lobbied for an all-gay edition before.

Just in time for the Sept. 9 release of “The Beatles: Rock Band” and reissues of all of the band’s albums, two of the Beatles appear on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly, according to EW.com. Noel Gallagher, the lead guitarist and songwriter of the British rock group Oasis, announced yesterday his decision to quit the band, reported CNN.com. Gallagher cited his fallout with his bandmate and brother, Liam Gallagher, as the reason. In a statement on the band’s Web site, Gallagher told fans he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

The band was on a European tour for its album “Dig Out Your Soul” and was scheduled to perform in France, Germany and Italy in the coming weeks. Noel Gallagher apologized to fans who had bought tickets for the shows.

Oasis had already canceled another gig at the V Festival in Britain this past weekend because Liam Gallagher had said he was sick and couldn’t sing.

Oasis is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Britpop movement of the early ’90s, gaining stardom with their 1994 hit “Supersonic” followed by one of their most famous tracks, “Wonderwall.”

According to TVGuide.com, The CW introduced an initiative called “Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood.” to kick off its new series, “The Vampire Diaries,” which premieres Sept. 10.

The blood drive, which began Aug. 25 and runs for five weeks, will give students at 250 high schools and colleges across the nation the opportunity to donate blood to the American Red Cross.

Donors can enjoy “Vampire Diaries”-themed refreshment areas complete with exclusive footage from the show, as well as “Vampire Diaries” customized t-shirts.

Also, earlier this week, a French version of a “New Moon” trailer was leaked onto YouTube, MTV.com reported. The nearly two-minute clip, all in French, gave “Twilight” fans their first video glimpse of actress Dakota Fanning playing Volturi vampire Jane. The clip was later removed after copyright claims made by Summit Entertainment.

The trailer is reportedly a combination of footage from the movie and interview segments featuring Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob. Many scenes had previously been released, including a part of a 14-second teaser trailer that was released Tuesday.

While there is no talk of an English version of the trailer being released anytime soon, fans can enjoy another “New Moon” trailer this weekend, where it will debut before screenings of Summit’s new movie “Bandslam” starring “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens.

According to USAToday.com, pop culture icons Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, who both died June 25, appear in the September issue of Vanity Fair. Fawcett’s cover photograph, by Bruce McBroom, will be featured on half of the issues and Jackson’s cover photograph, by Annie Leibovitz, will be featured on the other half.

The magazines will include the exact same content, and will be on newsstands nationwide Aug. 11. Subscribers will receive one of the two covers at random.

The stories accompanying the covers highlight Fawcett and Jackson’s lives,  focusing on 5 different topics: love, fame, career, odd behavior and family.

According to MTV.com, renowned filmmakers James Cameron and Peter Jackson have plans to convert some older films into 3-D now that the technology needed has become more available in theatres.  They first revealed the projects during a Comic-Con panel last Friday.

Cameron said he is working on a 3-D version of the 1997 film “Titanic,” which would relaunch on the big screen sometime in 2011, Cinematical.com reported.

Jackson discussed converting his “Lord of the Rings” trilogy to 3-D as well, but Warner Bros. is hesitant for now, stating that there aren’t enough 3-D screens yet.

A new documentary on celebrity-socialite Paris Hilton, called “Paris, Not France,” aired Tuesday night on MTV, reported MTV.com. The documentary, which featured the heiress herself, aimed to show the public the real Paris Hilton–the girl behind all the glamour and fame.

According to OrlandoSentinel.com, the documentary was filmed in 2006 and is a collaboration of Hilton’s home videos, commentary from family and friends, and footage from trips to London, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Hilton admitted that it took some time to get the courage to release the film.

According to Billboard.com, two concerts will be held Oct. 29 and 30 at Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Music legends Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band,  Paul Simon, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Friends, Simon and Garfunkel, and Stevie Wonder will be performing the first night while U2, Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, and Metallica will perform the second.

Joel Gallen, director and producer behind the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies and the MTV Movie Awards  from 1996-2005, will manage the two shows.

The concerts will consist of live performances mixed with filmed segments that tell the story of rock & roll and trace the history of the genres from soul to hard rock. A special creative team including Tom Hanks and Cameron Crowe will be working with the artists to ensure smooth transitions during the program.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Aug. 3 at 9 a.m., but American Express cardholders will be able to purchase advanced tickets starting July 27.

Proceeds will be used to create a permanent endowment for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation and Museum.

The nominees for the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today, with “Mad Men” and “30 Rock” leading the nominations with 16 and 22 nods respectively, according to CNN.com. The two shows came out on top last year, with “Mad Men” taking best drama and “30 Rock,” which just announced a syndication deal, won best comedy series.

A surprising nominee this year for best comedy series is FOX’s “Family Guy,” which was taken off the air for a while then returned in 2005. It is only the second animated TV series in history to be nominated for the best comedy series category. The other was “The Flintstones” in 1961.

The nominees for Best Drama Series include: “Big Love,” “Breaking Bad,” “Damages,” “Dexter,” “House,” “Lost,” and “Mad Men.”

The nominees for Best Comedy Series are: “Entourage,” “Family Guy,” “Flight of the Concords,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “The Office,” “30 Rock,” and “Weeds.”

Though some categories were expanded to seven nominees this year, there were quite a few snubs. “Grey’s Anatomy” received no nominations in the major categories, and neither did “Desperate Housewives”, which only received nominations for best guest actor and best hairstyling.

Other shows that came up empty in major categories were “ER,” “Boston Legal,” “Battlestar Galactica,” and HBO’s “True Blood.” The popular FX drama “The Shield” got snubbed completely.

“Grey Gardens,” which aired on HBO earlier this year, was nominated for 17 awards, including best made-for-TV movie.
