An animated film has done it again! “Despicable Me” joins “Toy Story 3” and “Shrek Forever After” in the ranks of animated flicks that have topped the box office this summer, reports EW.com.

The Steve Carell-starrer follows the journeys of a supervillain, who despite being mean, captured audiences’ hearts and wallets with a $60.1-million opening weekend.

“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” held on strong for second place during its second weekend, while new release “Predators” opened at $25.3 million, at third place but still better than previous “Predator” movies.

“Toy Story 3″ and “The Last Airbender” rounded out the top five, with the former surpassing the $340-million mark and becoming Pixar’s highest-grossing film (previously it was “Finding Nemo”).

After a record-breaking $30-million midnight premiere, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” continued to dominate the box office during the weekend, grossing a total of $175 million in its first six days, reports EW.com.

The third installment of the popular Stephenie Meyer series was followed at the box office by another new release, M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender,” which despite terrible reviews, reaped $70 million during its five-day opener.

“Toy Story 3″ fell to third place, but nevertheless continued to earn Pixar millions each day. Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups” and “Knight and Day” with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz rounded out the top five.

EW.com has announced that “Eclipse,” the third entry in the unstoppable “Twilight Saga” franchise, has smashed previous box office records in midnight showings. With a $30-million total from the more than 4,000 theaters that premiered it late Tuesday night, “Eclipse” has knocked its predecessor “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” from the number one spot. ‘”New Moon” bowed to $26.3 million last November and was considered then the highest-grossing midnight premiere ever, but “Eclipse” has taken that crown and didn’t just stop there.

The film also broke the record for the largest domestic opening ever in Hollywood history, with 4,408 theaters premiering the film to thousands of “Twilight” fans. Friday will add 29 more theaters to the tally, which solidifies its place in box office history for now.

You know it’s summertime when MTV releases the nominees for the MTV Movie Awards and this year is no exception.

The nominations for the MTV staple awards show has been announced and the voting has started on MTV.com, where three new categories have been added to the roster: Global Superstar, The Biggest Badass Star, and the Best Scared As Sh*T Performance. Classic categories such as Best Villain, Best Kiss, and Best Female/Male Performances are still in tact.

The awards will be hosted by Aziz Ansari live on Sunday June 6th at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Voting began May 12th and will run till June 4th, but the voting for the Best Movie category will stay open right up until the award is presented.

The top contender this year is “The Hangover” with six nominations, including Best Movie, Best Villain, and Best Comedic Performance. “Avatar” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” follow with five nominations each. The full list of nominees and voting info can be found at MovieAwards.MTV.com.

Listen up, Twi-hards! This morning “Dawn”-ed with some important news for the “Twilight” world– the fourth installment of the movie franchise, “Breaking Dawn,” will be released on November 18, 2011, E! Online reports.

But, wait! Doesn’t “Eclipse” come out on June 30 of this summer? So we have to wait a year and a half for another dose of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner?! Unfortunately, yes. But the good news for fans of the books and movies is that “Breaking Dawn” will probably be well worth the wait.

With Oscar-nominated “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon set to helm the final chapter in Stephenie Meyer’s vampire love story, the fourth and final film in the series surely won’t disappoint. Plus, Summit has yet to say whether or not “Dawn” will be split into two films, a move which many fans support because of the book’s complicated storyline and huge amount of important material.

An early draft of the third film in the “Twlight Saga” series has apparently leaked online, Entertainment Weekly reports. A 112-page manuscript purporting to be for “Eclipse” also has one of the series’ star’s names on it, Jackson Rathbone.

Neither Summit Entertainment, the company responsible for the films, nor Rathbone have commented on the script’s authenticity. Last May there was a legitimate leak when someone found the script for “New Moon” in a trash bin. “New Moon” was released in November while “Eclipse” is scheduled to premiere this June.

Sandra Bullock’s football drama “The Blind Side” out-hustled the competition this weekend at the box office by earning $20.4 million, according to EW.com.

“The Blind Side” managed to overtake “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” after trailing the vampire hit for two weeks. The film has now grossed $129.3 million, making it likely to surpass “The Proposal” as the  biggest hit of Bullock’s career.

The “New Moon” cast has plenty to howl about. The film opened this weekend and posted record-breaking sales giving “New Moon” the biggest fall opening in history. The celebration doesn’t stop there. EW.com reports the film, “grossed an astounding $140.7 million at the box office this weekend,” earning the movie “the third biggest three-day debut ever, according to early estimates from Hollywood.com Box Office.” “The Dark Knight” and “Spiderman 3″ hold the top two spots.

“New Moon” also toppled the success of the franchise’s first film “Twilight,” by “outright doubl[ing] Twilight’s opening weekend of $69.6 million.”

Sandra Bullock’s “The Blindside” also experienced success this weekend, earning “an estimated $34.5 million for second place.” It’s the best opening of  Bullock’s career, beating the record she set just earlier this year with “The Proposal.”

Disaster movie “2012″ dropped “59 percent on its second weekend, taking in $26.5 million for $108.2 million total and third place.” The animated movie “Planet 51″ and “A Christmas Carol” took fourth and fifth place, respectively.

When “New Moon,” the second film in the “Twlight Saga” series, premiered at midnight, it had already set records. According to EW.com, several online ticketing services reported selling more advance tickets than ever before, beating records previously set by monster box office films like “The Dark Knight,” “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings.”

Accordingly, per GossipCop, the midnight grosses surpassed “Potter” and “Knight,” making “New Moon” the biggest midnight opening ever.

Tickets for the midnight showings began selling out early as September, with some theaters showing “Twilight” earlier in the evening  fans could watch the two flicks back-to-back.
