“American Idol” Top 12 Announced, Some Surprising Eliminations

“American Idol” revealed its Top 12 last night, leaving many viewers shocked by some of the contestants who were missing from the lineup. Todrick Hall, Katelyn Epperly, Lilly Scott and Alex Lambert were all sent home, and on Twitter, “Idol” fans have been voicing their disappointment, especially about Scott and Lambert’s departures. Some are even trying to use retweets to get Scott, an early favorite who seemed surprised to be voted off last night, back on the show as a wild card.

Conan O’Brien to Tour Beginning in April

Only a month and a half ago, Conan O’Brien bade “The Tonight Show” audiences a farewell. O’Brien’s departure from his position as host was met with sorrow from fans, but hope was on the horizon as talks began regarding a live tour. Fans of O’Brien can now celebrate – The Wrap announced that O’Brien will be hitting the road on a 30-city, 20-state tour beginning on April 12th and ending June 14th.

The tour, dubbed “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour,” will grace such cities as New York City (where O’Brien, his sidekick Andy Richter, and former members of the “Tonight Show Band” will perform in Radio City Music Hall), Los Angeles (where CoCo will be performing ironically close to his old “Tonight Show” home), Phoenix, San Diego, Chicago, and Boston, among many others. Tickets for the tour are now on sale through Ticketmaster and also through TeamCoco.com.

Via his personal Twitter (@ConanOBrien), O’Brien has tweeted more dates for New York City and Chicago, as well as what fans can expect from the show: “For that second show, I’ll be doing all Liza Minnelli songs.” O’Brien has also embraced the official “I’m With CoCo” poster, which shows an almost completely black-and-white version of O’Brien, but with his trademark fiery hair in front of an American flag, as the poster for his upcoming tour, as the image itself bears importance to O’Brien and his many supporters.

“American Idol” Guys Gaining On Girls

Tonight on “American Idol,” two girls will be sent home along with two guys. However, some “Idol” fans have been taking to their Twitter accounts to say that all this week’s male contestants should stick around and four female hopefuls should be sent home instead. Brooke Burke to Co-host DWTS

Season seven “Dancing With the Stars” winner Brooke Burke has signed on the co-host the hit series this season, reports Variety. Burke will be sharing duties with host Tom Bergeron and replacing former co-host Samantha Harris.

The model and dancing star has hosted numerous shows including “E! Wild On” and the music competition “Rock Star.” There had been reports that Burke was competing for the job alongside other DWTS alumni including Melissa Rycroft, Vanessa Minnillo and Spice Girls Mel B. Rycroft and Mel B.

The new season of “Dancing With the Stars” premieres on ABC on Monday, March 22 with a two-hour special at 8 p.m. EST. It seems that the Twitter-nation is divided on whether or not Burke is the better choice compared to Melissa Rycroft.

Betty White Confirms SNL Appearance

Updated March 11: NBC has announced that Betty White will be hosting SNL on Saturday, May 8 – Mother’s Day. Guests to be present on that show include SNL alumnae Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, and Ana Gasteyer.

Originally published March 10: “Golden Girl” actress Betty White has finally agreed to appear on Saturday Night Live, reports MTV.com.

White spilled the beans Sunday night at Elton John’s Oscar-viewing party to a People Magazine reporter. There has been a demand for the 88-year-old actress to host the comedy show ever since the Golden Girl appeared in a Snickers Super Bowl ad. The campaign culmulated into a Facebook fan page with nearly half a million fans.

White recently admitted that she didn’t see herself on the show, saying, “That just came out of left field. It’s ridiculous. I don’t think ['SNL' creator and producer] Lorne Michaels even knows about it, so we won’t worry about it.”

No details have been released about the specifics of White’s upcoming date with late-night television. It was pretty unanimous across the Twittersphere that White’s SNL gig is well overdue.

“Alice” Creates Wonder at Box Office

Tim Burton’s 3-D “Alice in Wonderland” earned an estimated $116.3 million this weekend, the highest grossing ever for a spring release, reports EW.com. Johnny Depp stars in the latest adaptation of the beloved Lewis Carroll novel, ”Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.”

The film made $11.9 million in merely 188 IMAX theaters, demonstrating that 3-D is here to stay. The other IMAX 3-D film, “Avatar,” continues to wow audiences, but had a 44% drop this week likely because of the success of “Alice.”

Coming in second place was the R-rated drama “Brooklyn’s Finest,” while “Shutter Island” fell to third place.

Emmys to Air Live Coast-to-Coast

On August 29th, 2010, it won’t matter if you live on the East Coast, the West Coast, or anywhere in between, because according to Broadcasting & Cable, NBC will be airing the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards live from coast-to-coast.

The awards show’s first telecast was broadcast live in 1955 throughout the country. This year, however, will be the first time since 1976, when the Emmys aired on ABC, that the awards show will be broadcasted live coast-to-coast. A live awards show throughout all time zones will prevent those in earlier time zones from spoiling the winning results for those in later ones.

Ice Dancing Reality Show Coming On ABC

For those who tuned in to watch ice dancing during the Winter Olympics and found themselves intrigued and fascinated, there is good news: ABC is planning to launch an ice dancing reality competition series later this year, confirmed EW.com.

If this sounds like ABC’s hit show, “Dancing With the Stars,” it’s because it is indeed similar in concept. More specifically, the show will be following the pattern of a similar show on BBC called “Strictly Ice Dancing.” Six celebrities will be paired with six professional ice skaters, and each pair will compete against the others. The main difference, of course, is the addition of ice skates.

Confirmation for the show comes at a time when audiences are still on post-Olympics cloud nines. The show, however, will not debut until later in the year. Already the Twitterverse seems full of many skeptics of the new show, but there were also a few hopefuls:

Tonight, America sent four “Idol” contestants home: gospel singer Jermaine Sellers, Shania Twain’s beloved John Park, R&B-styled Michelle Delamor and country-singing 16-year-old Haeley Vaughn.

“Idol” fans were tweeting their opinions about the two guys and two girls eliminated, with “American Idol” still trending long after the show. Some noticed that all the contestants kicked off were minorities. Others lamented the departure of their favorite singer, while still others were tweeting their disappointment over the caliber of talent on the show:
