The 3-D craze continues as EW.com confirms that Sony Pictures’ Seth Rogen-led film “The Green Hornet” will be coming to the big screen enhanced with the new technology. In addition, Variety.com reports that Paramount Pictures’ “The Last Airbender,” directed by M. Night Shyamalan, will also appear in theaters in 3-D.

As a result of the 3-D conversion, the release date for “The Green Hornet” has been moved from December 22 to January 14. However, despite the date switch, Sony says it’s been the plan all along to upgrade the film to 3-D.

Unlike “The Green Hornet,” Paramount and Shyamalan made a last-minute decision to make a 3-D adventure out of “The Last Airbender,” and they’ve been working with a company called Stereo D to make it a reality. “The Last Airbender” is still slated to arrive in theaters on July 2.

Other 3-D films out within the next year include Warner Bros.’s “Yogi Bear,” Disney’s “Tron,” Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ and Fox’s “Gulliver’s Travels.”

If you enjoy Disney-Pixar films, prepare to be celebrate – the company has announced its plans for a sequel to the 2001 hit film “Monsters Inc.,” reports Variety.

In addition to the sequel, which is set to debut on November 16, 2012, the next two years will be important ones in the world of animation. Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ will be released this summer, and “Cars 2,” will follow shortly in 2011. In addition, an entirely female-fueled Pixar film called “Brave” will release on June 15, 2012. Reese Witherspoon will star in the film about a princess who desires to become the first great female archer.

The announcement of the new movie release dates comes just as Disney announced plans to produce 14-16 movies (live action and animated as well) a year through the combined efforts  of its partners Marvel and Dreamworks.

For the third weekend in a row, Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” continued to top the box office, reports EW. The 3-D fantasy film grossed more than any of the weekend’s newcomers. This weekend’s additional $34.5 million puts the movie’s current total at $266 million.

The family-friendly “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” grossed $22 million, followed by Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler’s “The Bounty Hunter” at $21 million. Despite being unable to topple “Alice,” both films received mostly positive reviews from tweeps.

Tonight’s “American Idol” auditions took place in Orlando. The classic Disney song “When You Wish Upon A Star” played in the background of many of tonight’s try-outs, but, as usual, the episode featured more dreams shattered than dreams come true.

Kristen Chenoweth, who recently hosted the Critics’ Choice Awards and is perhaps best known for her roles in “Wicked” and “Glee,” was tonight’s guest judge. The petite blonde didn’t seem to have much to say and wasn’t around for the second day of auditions. Still, plenty tweeps had comments on the actress-singer.

On the first day of auditions, Seth Rollins won over Chenoweth, as well as the other judges, with his soulful voice and touching relationship with his autistic son. While some in the Twitterverse loved Rollins’ voice and story, others thought his son’s special needs were sensationalized.

Miley Cyrus has decided being both Miley and Hannah Montana is no longer the best of both worlds. According to Gossip Cop, “The hit series that made Miley Cyrus one of the biggest stars in the world will close after its upcoming fourth season.”

Disney confirmed the report but said they do not know how many episodes will be made for the final season or when they will air. Gossip Cop says the final episode will mimic Cyrus’ real life difficulties, “as her character struggles with whether to leave behind her pop starlet persona for a ‘regular’ life as a teenage girl.”

The final season will begin filming on January 18.

Disney’s 2-D animated film, “The Princess and the Frog,” opened at number one with $25 million, reports EW.com.  The movie features Disney’s first African-American princess and has received positive reviews from both audiences and critics alike.

“The Blind Side” fell to the number two spot, adding $15.4 million to its $150 million total.

Overall, the top 12 films together made the box office increase 8 percent over last year.

The end of the week resulted in big money for an end-of-the world tale, according to EW.com. The John Cusack disaster film “2012″ took in an estimated $65 million in the U.S. and $160 million elsewhere, bringing in more than its $200 million budget. Despite the high numbers, though, the box office took in more money at this time in 2008 when it was propelled by the action flick “Quantum of Solace.”

Disney’s “A Christmas Carol” held up well in its second weekend in theaters, dropping only 26 percent and taking the second place spot. The CG-animated film’s tally included 14 percent of its gross from IMAX runs, grossing $22.3 million this week overall. “The Men Who Stare At Goats” took third, dropping 51 percent from last weekend and grossing $6.2 million for a $23 million total.

“Precious” earned an unusual per-screen average of $35,000, putting it in fourth. With the addition of 156 theaters to its limited release opening weekend, it earned $6 million. The Michael Jackson film “This Is It” took a steep drop of 61 percent to earn $5.1 million and fifth place. The concert documentary has earned $67 million in three weeks.

The ever-present Mickey Mouse has been a static icon in pop culture for years, but he may be getting a makeover, The New York Times reports.

With worries that Mickey might merely become a corporate, consumer icon, Disney is making attempts to alter his traditional image for a generation who has grown up with computer-generated images.  Disney hopes to reignite love towards the icon by using an edgier version of the character in a new videogame.

Mickey Mouse and Spider-Man may not be fighting crime together anytime soon, but the possibility isn’t as far-fetched as it onced sounded, as news broke this morning that Disney is buying Marvel Entertainment, according to NPR.org.

Disney is paying $4 billion to acquire the company and its characters, which range from Spider-Man to Captain America to the X-Men.

Though it is uncertain what this move will mean for comic book lovers, some Twitter users reacted with enthusiasm, others with frustration:

“Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “Pocahontas,” “Mulan”– these are the Disney classics of the 90s, most of which are stuck on VHS tapes in our basements. But that needn’t be the case for long, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For a fee, these classics will soon be easily accessible on the internet.

President and CEO of Disney, Robert Iger, announced at Fortune Magazine’s Brainstorm: Tech conference a plan to put content online with a subscription fee.

“There’s plenty of room for people to spend more money on things that they’re doing online,” Iger said.
