Jaden Smith, don’t put up your karate uniform just yet.

After a highly successful opening this past weekend ($56 million to be exact), it’s a no-brainer that there are already talks for a ‘Karate Kid’ sequel. EW.com reports that talks for a return of Dre Parker have been going on for weeks, according to Sony Pictures studio head Doug Belgrad.

At the moment no writers have been hired, but director Harald Zwart has said that he would be glad to return for a second go. There is also no word of Jaden Smith returning or if Jaden’s parents, Will and Jada Smith, will return to producing duties.

“Lord of the Rings” fans, rejoice! “The Hobbit” finally has a release date.

EW.com reports that Warner Bros. has announced that the first installment of “The Hobbit” will ‘hopefully’ be released in December 2012, with the second installment dropping a year later in December 2013. Keep in mind though that the script is still being hammered out, so, without that must-have backbone pretty much nothing can be moved forward in terms of production. Peter Jackson, the director of the “Lord of the Rings” films, is coming back as a producer, while Guillermo del Toro (”Hellboy 2: The Golden Army,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”) will direct both installments of the long-awaited live-action take on the classic prequel tale.

Oprah Winfrey may be leaving her signature talk show soon, but that certainly doesn’t mean that the “Queen of Daytime Television” is going anywhere. She had previously announced that her company Harpo Productions would be launching the Oprah Winfrey Network in January 2011 and yesterday, Entertainment Weekly announced the newest shows to be added to the network’s programming.

“Oprah’s Next Chapter” is a show that will follow the talk-show host as she travels across the country in order to converse and interact with people in from a variety of places. The other shows that OWN is set to air include are “Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind,” “Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star,” “Gayle King Live!,” and “Why Not? With Shania Twain.” Shania Twain’s show, according to People Magazine, is set to showcase the country singer’s current rise back to fame, as well as her personal relationships and other adventures.

Other shows that were previously announced include an investigate series with “The Oprah Winfrey Show” contributor Lisa Ling, adequately named “Inside with Lisa Ling,” an insiders look at prisons in “Breaking Down the Bars,” and “Searching,” a show focusing on reuniting friends and families. Sex therapist Dr. Laura Berman will also be hosting her own show, “In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman.”

The complete official Harry Potter Web site, hosted by Scholastic Books, has been re-vamped and re-launched, reports Entertainment Weekly. Now avid fans of the franchise are able to test their knowledge by taking quizzes about each of the seven books, participate in Potter polls, and peruse a glossary of magical terms. The Web site’s launch comes on the heels of another big Potter-related  announcement this week - Orlando’s Universal Studios is set to open its “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” theme park on June 18th.

Izzie is no more. Katherine Heigl, who portrays Dr. Isobel Stevens on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that her last episode on the show has already aired back in January.

After months of speculation, the actress and ABC Studios have finally reached a mutual agreement to release Heigl from her contract, which was not set to expire for another 18 months. Heigl cited wanting to be with her newly adopted daughter, Naleigh, as her reason.

With her daughter Bristol to star in ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” later this year, it was only fitting that ex-Alaskan governor Sarah Palin would find her own spot on television. The former vice-presidential candidate is teaming up with well-known reality show producer Mark Burnett (”Survivor,” “The Apprentice”) to pitch her own docudrama in Hollywood this week, Entertainment Weekly.com reports.

Palin has been seen leaving  ABC, Fox and CBS this week and she still plans to meet with NBC to pitch her idea for a “planet-Earth type look” of her home state of Alaska.

In 2009, Taylor Swift had one crazy year. From interruptions during awards show speeches, a memorable guest host and musical appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” big wins at the CMAs and AMAs, and recently taking home the coveted Album of the Year award at the Grammys, it is hard to argue that T-Swift has been anything shy of successful. Not everyone, however, is enthralled by the 20-year-old superstar.

The singer has recently encountered backlash via blogs and mainstream publications, especially regarding her Grammy duet with Stevie Nicks. While some went as far as saying Swift didn’t deserve the Grammys she won, many others–from music critics to everyday music fans alike–focused on her performance, saying she was flat and chastised her for demeaning Nicks to merely a back-up singer.  Swift’s record label was quick to defend the star by responding that her performances are “not ‘American Idol’. This is not a competition [to see] who can sing the highest note.” According to Entertainment Weekly, that statement by Scott Borchetta, head of Big Machines Records, caused former “Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson to get a bit upset.

Clarkson retorted to Bruchetta’s statement in her blog, voicing that she, too, supports Swift, but that she was offended by the implication that “Idol” serves only to produce artists who can “hit high notes” and that Borchetta should be slow to defend his client by attacking other artists. Clarkson felt he should have owned up to Swift’s sub-par performance rather than putting the singer on a pedestal.

After more than a decade as one of Hollywood’s A-list actresses, Sandra Bullock has begun a new chapter in her career with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in the football drama “The Blind Side.” But MTV.com reports that the Oscar isn’t the only nomination Bullock received this week. She is also up for a Razzie award in the Worst Actress category for her ditzy role in “All About Steve.”

Pulling off both nominations is a rare and perhaps bittersweet feat but, as Entertainment Weekly declared in December, Bullock is having “the best year of her career.” Both “The Blind Side” and “The Proposal” were box office hits, offsetting the “All About Steve” dud.

Entertainment Weekly reports the long-running reality programs “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” have both been renewed by CBS for two more seasons.

“Survivor” will begin its 20th edition February 11 and shortly after “The Amazing Race” will kickoff its 16th edition on February 14. There’s no details yet as to whether two-time Emmy winning “Survivor” host Jeff Probst will continue after his contract is up at the end of the upcoming season.
