In 2003, the television series “Futurama” was cancelled, much to the disappointment of fans and its creator, David X. Cohen. ”Futurama” re-runs then aired alongside “Family Guy” on the Adult Swim network. Eventually, “Family Guy” began to air full-length episodes on DVD, which caused Fox to bring the show back on the air. Cohen convinced the network to do the same with “Futurama,” and in 2007, four direct-to-DVD movies were released. Now thanks to those DVD sales, Comedy Central has picked up “Futurama” for a new season which debuted its first new episode last night, reports CNN.

The show picked up where the last movie left off and will continue its season with milestones which include celebrating the show’s 100th episode. Al Gore and Coolio will also be lending their voices once again in the new season of “Futurama.”

After a long and arduous journey, “American Idol” finally picked its finalists for the grand finale that will air next week. The two finalists are Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, which means that Casey James was sent home from the competition this week, People.com reports.

The episode also showcased the singing talents of Travis Garland, a triple-threat act discovered by Perez Hilton, and teen sensation Justin Bieber as they both performed their own songs to fill in the time before the contestants (and America) got their results.

The hour also showed the contestants’ trips home to their respective families, where they met fans who made their voices known on how proud they were of the finalists.

The 3-D craze continues as EW.com confirms that Sony Pictures’ Seth Rogen-led film “The Green Hornet” will be coming to the big screen enhanced with the new technology. In addition, Variety.com reports that Paramount Pictures’ “The Last Airbender,” directed by M. Night Shyamalan, will also appear in theaters in 3-D.

As a result of the 3-D conversion, the release date for “The Green Hornet” has been moved from December 22 to January 14. However, despite the date switch, Sony says it’s been the plan all along to upgrade the film to 3-D.

Unlike “The Green Hornet,” Paramount and Shyamalan made a last-minute decision to make a 3-D adventure out of “The Last Airbender,” and they’ve been working with a company called Stereo D to make it a reality. “The Last Airbender” is still slated to arrive in theaters on July 2.

Other 3-D films out within the next year include Warner Bros.’s “Yogi Bear,” Disney’s “Tron,” Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ and Fox’s “Gulliver’s Travels.”

At 1:30am Tuesday morning, actor Kal Penn (”Harold & Kumar,” ”House”) was robbed at gunpoint, according to People.com. The actor, who had taken a sabbatical from acting to work as a White House aide to President Obama, had his wallet and other items stolen from him. The police ruled the incident as a “basic street robbery,” with no ill intent directed to the actor based on his stardom.

Penn, after his shocking exit on the FOX medical drama “House” last July, became an Obama Administration liaison to the Asian-American, Pacific population, and the arts communities. Penn, who was not injured in the attack, announced earlier this year that he would be leaving his White House aide position to reprise his role as Kumar in the third outing in the popular “Harold & Kumar” franchise.

The highly anticipated, Madonna tribute episode of “Glee,” titled “The Power of Madonna,” proved to be a hit not only with the fans, but in the ratings as well, bringing in 13.5 million viewers and winning the 18-49 demographic in the process when it aired on Tuesday evening. With those successful numbers, as well as the episode’s soundtrack being #1 on iTunes, one would think that a sequel episode can’t be too far behind. Well, how does next season sound?

According to EW.com, ”Glee” creator Ryan Murphy is already in talks with the Material Girl’s people to do another tribute during the show’s second season this fall. The episode will include six more songs, with the possibility of fans being able to vote which of Madonna’s hits makes the set list for the New Directions crew of McKinley High. Don’t worry about holding your breath, though. Murphy is optimistic about the talks, with word that Madonna is down for another round.

EW.com and HuffingtonPost.com reports that Madonna has given her opinion on the upcoming episode of the FOX phenomenon, “Glee,” titled “The Power of Madonna,” which features some of the Material Girl’s top hits. Everyone wanted to know what Madonna had to say since this is one of the most anticipated hours of TV this year and we got our wish. Sort of.

“I think Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) is very cute and I’m glad he’s doing such a good job empowering the girls.” End of quote.

In a surprising twist, former “Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien announced this morning that he would be joining TBS this fall for his new talk show, reports EW.com. The 11 p.m. show on the cable network will premiere in November.

Since O’Brien first declared that he wouldn’t allow his show to be pushed back by NBC’s line-up change and then left the network with a $45-million buyout, there has been an immense of speculation as to where the comedian would take his talents to. Until recently, FOX had been in talks with O’Brien, but late last week realized the complexities of fitting in a show with O’Brien into their affiliates’ programming.

TBS just began talking to O’Brien last week. Their plan was to fit O’Brien in at the 11 p.m. slot. However, according to MSNBC, O’Brien was unwilling to consider pushing George Lopez’s show to a later time slot, especially when it was the same situation which led to his own exit from NBC. Lopez, however, then reportedly called O’Brien to express his interest in having O’Brien become part of the TBS family.

O’Brien’s new currently unnamed show will air starting in November on Mondays through Thursdays right before Lopez’s show. At the moment “Coco” is touring the country in his “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour.”

As “American Idol” is getting down to its best contestants and “Glee” is set to return to Fox soon, the network has decided to air a week of music-themed episodes of its most watched shows, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Musical components will be added to the storylines of “Bones,” “Fringe,” “House,” “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” and several of Fox’s other popular shows for the week of Thursday, April 29 to Wednesday, May 5.

During the middle of that week, on May 2, ”Family Guy” will celebrate its 150th episode, and for the celebration there will be an extended episode with special musical numbers.

EW.com reports that Fox has confirmed that its hit show “24″ would be ending after the current eighth season. The series finale will air on May 24.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland, who plays the main character Jack Bauer, said that the finale will lead into a “24″ movie that’s currently being scripted. Unlike the show, which is shown in a real-time format, the movie will pack the usual 24-hour action-filled day of Jack Bauer into a two-hour movie.
