After a long and arduous journey, “American Idol” finally picked its finalists for the grand finale that will air next week. The two finalists are Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, which means that Casey James was sent home from the competition this week, People.com reports.

The episode also showcased the singing talents of Travis Garland, a triple-threat act discovered by Perez Hilton, and teen sensation Justin Bieber as they both performed their own songs to fill in the time before the contestants (and America) got their results.

The hour also showed the contestants’ trips home to their respective families, where they met fans who made their voices known on how proud they were of the finalists.

The late “King of Pop” is scheduled to receive another tribute from the entertainment world–this time in 3-D. The salute will take place at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on Jan. 31, reports PEOPLE.

Viewers will be shown a 3-D film clip Jackson made before his death. The tribute will include a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy as well as performances from Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood and Usher.

The integration of the clip will make the 2010 Grammys the first awards show to include 3-D. Target stores across the nation are distributing 3-D glasses necessary to watch for free.

Michael C. Hall, star of the hit show “Dexter,” revealed that he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer, TV Guide Magazine reports. Hall, 38, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but he says the cancer is in remission.

In a statement Hall said, “I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care.”

Hall’s spokesman added that although the actor’s cancer is in remission, he will continue treatment. Hall plans to return for the fifth season of “Dexter” later on this year and, according to PEOPLE, will attend the Golden Globes on Sunday. Both he and the show received nominations.

In an effort to raise awareness about the global water crisis, celebrities like Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Lupe Fiasco are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, according to PEOPLE.

Kenna, a Grammy-nominated singer, is leading the climb of 19,340 feet and also led the group through a village near Arusha, Tanzania, where they saw first-hand the effects of poor water availability. There are one billion people in the world without clean water.

The climbers are hoping to raise money for clean water programs. While solutions such as harvesting rain or watershed irrigation are already in effect, the goal of the climb is to use fame to bring more attention to the efforts.

Ms. Smile-with-your-eyes is following in Oprah’s footsteps, bidding her eponymous talk show goodbye in spring of 2010. According to PEOPLE.com, “After five seasons, two Daytime Emmy awards and too many girl-power episodes to count, Tyra Banks is announcing the end of ‘The Tyra Show.’”

Banks said she decided to end her talk show to focus on her production company Bankable Productions. Banks told PEOPLE, “My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are.”

Singer-actress Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has confirmed that she will be starring on Broadway revival of the musical “Chicago,” PEOPLE reports.

Simpson-Wentz, whose role as Violet Foster on “Melrose Place” will soon end, will star as Roxie Hart starting on Nov. 30. She previously held the role in the London run of “Chicago” but this will be her Broadway debut.

PEOPLE has named actor Johnny Depp as its 2009 Sexiest Man Alive.  The ”Pirates of the Caribbean” actor became the third man to hold the honor twice (Brad Pitt and George Clooney being the others). Depp first earned the title in 2003.

Also honored in the special issue, on newsstands Friday, are actors Rob Pattison, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bradley Cooper.

The 82nd Academy Awards will be hosted by actors Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, reports PEOPLE.

Baldwin will be a first-time Oscars host while Martin will be hosting for the third time. He previously hosted the 73rd and 75th shows.

Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, will be a guest on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show on Nov. 16, PEOPLE reports.

Palin declined to appear on the show when she was campaigning as John McCain’s running mate last year.  Palin’s book, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” will be published soon and it’s likely that is the reason for the appearance.
