It’s a lucky day for The Green Lantern. The DC Comics character is the subject of a film adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds that’s due out in summer 2011 and Warner Bros. has already given the green light for a sequel, reports MSN.

The studio is confident that HAI Jordan (The Green Lantern) will be a blockbuster hit so it has hired the first movie’s writers to work on a second script.

While comic book fans are excited for more superhero movies, they’re somewhat apprehensive about a sequel before the first movie has been released.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are set to star in another movie together after their blockbuster success “The Proposal,” reports EW.com.

The Monday announcement came just one day after Bullock’s appearance at the MTV Movie Awards to accept the MTV Generation Award, where in her acceptance speech she told audiences she wanted things to go back to normal and that despite rumors, she was not going to quit acting.

The action comedy, tentatively named “Most Wanted,” was written by Peter Chiarelli, the same screenwriter who penned “The Proposal.” The same production company, Mandeville Films, will once again produce and talks are going on to get “The Proposal” director Anne Fletcher on board. Bullock will play a criminal being escorted by Reynolds’ character, a U.S. Marshall, on her way to court. The pair will be ambushed and then go on the run together.

PEOPLE has named actor Johnny Depp as its 2009 Sexiest Man Alive.  The ”Pirates of the Caribbean” actor became the third man to hold the honor twice (Brad Pitt and George Clooney being the others). Depp first earned the title in 2003.

Also honored in the special issue, on newsstands Friday, are actors Rob Pattison, Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bradley Cooper.

Marking the best three-day opening of the summer so far, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” trampled the competition at the box office this weekend, grossing $112 million between Friday and Sunday.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the robot-focused action flick grossed an estimated $201 million over its first 5 days, second only to “The Dark Knight’s” 5-day opening of $203 million last year.

Romantic comedy “The Proposal,” starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, took the runner-up spot, bringing in $18.5 million during its second weekend.  “The Hangover” continued to prove its staying power with a third-place total of $17.2 million.

A chick-flick took on the frat-pack at the box office this weekend – and won.

After clinching the top spot two weeks in a row, “The Hangover” failed to complete the hat trick and fell to the romantic comedy, “The Proposal,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, “The Proposal” brought in $34.1 million during its debut weekend, making it the most successful opening of Bullock’s career.

Pixar’s “Up” found itself in the top three for the fourth week in a row, earning $21.3 million. “Up’s” box office grand total is now at $224 million.

With all the promotion MTV has been doing for Sunday’s Movie Awards, it seems there’s a lot to look forward to. From host Andy Samberg to the A-list presenters and wacky categories, MTV has promised a lot.  Now it’s time to see if they’ll deliver.

A slew of celebrities are scheduled to appear, including Shia LaBeouf, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Denzel Washington, Cameron Diaz, Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Vanessa Hudgens, Leighton Meester, Jonah Hill and Lil Wayne. Eminem and Kings of Leon are among the performers.

Movie fans should also gear up for three big sneak-peeks: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,”  “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” and “New Moon” from the Twilight saga, which will be presented by “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.
