Shaq Starring in New Reality Show

NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, a frequent Twitterer under the name @The_Real_Shaq, will star in an ABC reality series, “Shaq Vs.,” which follows his efforts to beat top athletes at their own sports, USA Today reports.

The 36-year-old four-time hoops champion said he came up with the idea as a fun way to train and thought sports fans would appreciate it. The network agreed, according to the co-chief of ABC’s reality programming, John Saade.

“Our real hope is you come for the absurdity but you stay for the sport,” Saade told USA Today. The “absurdity” includes the frequent trash-talking and challenges that take place at the star’s home.

The series began filming this week when O’Neal took on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in football. Future episodes will include St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya, and tennis star Serena Williams.

The hour-long episodes will begin airing Tuesday, August 18 at 9 ET/PT.

Shaq Challenges Lance Armstrong to Race Via Twitter

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal has challenged champion cyclist Lance Armstrong to a biking race. Shaq, a big Twitter user under the name @The_Real_Shaq, used the microblogging service to get the message to Armstrong, otherwise known as @lancearmstrong.
