For those who tuned in to watch ice dancing during the Winter Olympics and found themselves intrigued and fascinated, there is good news: ABC is planning to launch an ice dancing reality competition series later this year, confirmed EW.com.

If this sounds like ABC’s hit show, “Dancing With the Stars,” it’s because it is indeed similar in concept. More specifically, the show will be following the pattern of a similar show on BBC called “Strictly Ice Dancing.” Six celebrities will be paired with six professional ice skaters, and each pair will compete against the others. The main difference, of course, is the addition of ice skates.

Confirmation for the show comes at a time when audiences are still on post-Olympics cloud nines. The show, however, will not debut until later in the year.  Already the Twitterverse seems full of many skeptics of the new show, but there were also a few hopefuls:

In order to fill the programming void left by “The Jay Leno Show” mess, NBC has ordered more episodes of several series, including the dramas “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU,” and “Trauma,” Variety.com reports

As far as comedies go, NBC has given “Community” and “Parks and Recreation” additional episode orders. “The Office” and “30 Rock” were also picked up for more than their usual 22 episodes.

With “Leno” no longer airing at 10  p.m beginning in March, NBC had to scramble together a new schedule. But NBC’s loss is a gain for the other shows, especially “Trauma,” since it was only expected to run for six more episodes.
