Texas beats Boston College in 25-inning marathon
There’s a good chance you missed this game.
Make that three games.
For 25 innings on Saturday night/Sunday morning, the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns’ baseball team battled with visiting Boston College in the Austin Regional winners bracket game.
Finally, at 2:20 a.m. EST, Texas’ Travis Tucker singled home a runner from third base with one out to give the ‘Horns a 3-2 win, ending the longest game in Division 1 baseball history.
In the ninth inning, tied at 2-2, Longhorns’ relief pitcher Austin Wood entered the game.
12 1/3 innings later, Wood had still not allowed a hit. He also struck out 14 batters. (!!!!!!)
Texas scored two runs in the second inning, while Boston College scored one in the fourth and one in the sixth to tie the match and start a saga equal in length to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
