Red Wings put Penguins in 0-2 Stanley Cup hole
The Pittsburgh Penguins can make the claim that Detroit simply won the games they played on their home ice.
But after Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the Pens, the Red Wings now must be defeated four out of five contests in order to lose the Stanley Cup, per the Detroit Free Press.
Daunting.
Pittsburgh scored first on a goal by Evgeni Malkin and led after one period, but the Red Wings got two second period goals to take the lead (Jonathan Ericsson and Valtteri Filppula), one which they would not relingquish.
The Red Wings success is leaving Twitterers scratching their head in wonder:
cvas The red wings 3rd line could start for half the league, their strength and speed is too much for the pens and team finesse mpjacobson Watching Red Wings dominate again. Wondering how year in and year out, they always have one of the best teams in hockey. dwc I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Red Wings are just amazing this year. mhedstrom Yeah Red Wings! Now just lose 1 game away so you can take it at home in game 5 (which we’ll be at).
The Penguins have two straight home games to get back in the series, but Twittering Pens’ fans are glum:
newrose Someone let me know when the Penguins actually show up to the game please #Pens shuylerjansen This Stanley cup final isn’t going my way personally, except business wise I bet against the penguins cuz I had no choice if I wanted to win pacificavita Oh Penguins, you play hockey like a bunch of color blind girls. You WILL win on Tuesday, or I will no longer be your fan. I will always … derdrache The Penguins could best be described right now as completely impotent. #nhl #pens #wings
