Stanley Cup? NBA Finals? World Cup qualifiers? Please step aside.

A new champion was crowned tonight in Oklahoma City as the Washington Huskies softball team defeated the Florida Gators 3-2 to claim their first-ever NCAA softball trophy, per gohuskies.com.

With her second victory in as many days, the national player of the year and the Women’s College World Series MVP, Danielle Lawrie (42-8 on the season), pitched a gem despite putting the Huskies down 2-0 early. But after a third inning dribbler by Morgan Stuart that allowed the go-ahead run to score, the Huskies never looked back and swept the Gators in the best-of-three series.

The Huskies are now the third team from the Pac-10 conference to win a NCAA softball championship in the past three seasons, joining Arizona State and Arizona who have won the past two seasons respectively. The Pac-10 has won a remarkable 21 out of a possible 27 championships in softball.
