Eight teams opened their bids for a chance at the College World Series (@CWS2009) today, but only four can say “one more win”.

Three SEC teams– Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss– plus Cal State Fullerton all won their first game in the best-of-three Super Regional format.

The Rebels had the most exciting win when sophomore Matt Smith hit a walk-off solo homerun in the bottom of the twelfth inning giving Ole Miss a 4-3 over Virginia.

Even up to the twelfth inning, it was a beautiful day for baseball in Oxford, Mississippi:

The victims– Florida State, Rice, Virginia, and Louisville– must now win two straight games in order to book a trip to Omaha.

The host Seminoles fell 7-2 after committing three errors, despite outhitting the Razorbacks (@ArkRazorbacks) on the day. Rice (@riceowlsdotcom) fell 12-9 to LSU (@LSUsports) in Baton Rouge after the Tigers put up six runs in the fifth inning against the Owls.

And finally, the Titans of CSUF (@CSUFAthletics) stomped the Louisville Cardinals 12-0 in the late game.

In addition to these eight teams, eight other start their respective series: East Carolina at North Carolina, Clemson at Arizona State, TCU at Texas, and Southern Miss at Florida.
