Kuznetsova cruises to French Open championship
74 minutes separated seventh-ranked Svetlana Kuznetsova from her second Grand Slam title as she breezed through top-ranked Dinara Safina 6-4, 6-2 to win the French Open, per ESPN.com.
Kuznetsova, winner of the 2004 U.S. Open, overcame her shaky emotions and capitalized on the seven double-faults of Safina, who could not find her rhythm in the orange clay at Roland Garros (@rolandgarros_09). The loss marked the end to Safina’s 16-match winning streak.
