NCAA Super Regionals: Day 2 recap; several teams advance to Omaha
The NCAA Super Regionals ratcheted up the intensity on Saturday as all eight super regional sites were in action and some teams punched their first-class tickets to Nebraska for the College World Series (@CWS2009), per NCAA.com.
Arkansas (@ArkRazorbacks) was the first to do so with a stunning victory over host Florida State.
Leading 7-5 heading to the top of the ninth inning, the Seminoles score three runs to take an 8-7 lead. But the bullpen again doomed Mike Martin’s squad, surrendering a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Razorbacks a 9-8 walk-off victory and a date in Omaha.
Arkansas is in the CWS for the first time since 2004, having swept Florida State in the Super Regionals that year as well.
Also headed to Omaha are the LSU Tigers (@LSUsports) and Cal State Fullerton Titans (@CSUFAthletics) with wins over Rice and Louisville, respectively.
The three team’s fans are already preparing the BBQ:
