College World Series: LSU needs extra innings to take down Texas in Game 1 of championship series
It’s a good thing Chris Berman wasn’t at Rosenblatt Stadium for Monday’s College World Series championship opener between Texas and LSU.
The all too familiar “back, back, back, back…” would still be resonating in ears from Omaha across the country with the amount of homeruns hit during Game 1 of the best-of-three series.
In the end, it was a ninth-inning rally that saved the post-season undefeated Tigers (55-16) before capping off the comeback with a run in the top of the 11th inning, felling the Longhorns 7-6 in in front of 23,000 souvenir-happy fans, per NCAA.com.
Here’s a few tweets from happy Tigers’ fans:
xxldaddyo Hold that Tiger! Hold that Tiger! Hold that Tiger! Way to geaux Tigers. One more win baby, one more win is all you need! Geaux LSU! D1r9n screams “That’s the way TIGERS!” Yeah! mandolfo Way to go Tigers. Come from behind win in the 11th. Omaha is a great place to be right now! martiq Hyperventilate-Tigers claw back to a win!
Omaha was hot and bustling before the start of Monday’s CWS finale:

It was only fitting that two teams which have a combined for 11 national titles would combine for seven homeruns– all solo shots with three coming in the bottom of the fourth inning for Texas (49-15-1), setting the tone for hot, muggy night.
jyarbrough Texas is absolutely crushing the ball tonight. Five homeruns against one of the best college pitchers in the nation. #ut #cws drewmeister8 5 solo homeruns..the horns are bringing it tonight KaitlinLawrence Seriously, what’s the record on solo homeruns at the cws? Someone google it for me dhsmart They couldn’t have gotten all those freakin’ homeruns out in the last game they played. C’mon LSU-more strikes, less hits and no homeruns!
With a 6-4 Texas lead and two outs in the ninth inning, LSU got a clutch two-run double from D.J. LeMahieu to tie the score, setting up the extra inning theatrics. With one more win Tigers’ coach Paul Manieri will get his first national championship in replacement of legendary coach Skip Bertman.
shaynekelsie stressed and have a headache BUT WERE FREAKIN TIED UP!!!! GO LSU!!! brink78 Woot! Beautiful hit by LSU player with French name I can’t spell! jllanclos I do not believe LSU just got 2 in the top of the 9th to tie it…BARF tbevilacqua1034 Ugh- #lsu ties it up 6-6. Well, we’re #ut we’re used to this at this point. Let’s just get out of the inning here.
After loading the bases in the top of the 10th and not pushing a run across, the Tigers got a single with two outs from Mikie Mahtook, scoring the winning run from second. Closer Matty Ott recorded his school-record 16th save to finish off the ‘Horns in the bottom of the 11th.
Russell Moldenhauer had two homers for a Texas team that knows they let a win slip away and must now win Tuesday and Wednesday night to snatch the title away from LSU.
kayzee13 pissed. lsu didn’t win that one, texas just lost it. #ut #cws mreiszner heart broken after the Texas LSU game. hawksPRman Texas will have pitchers-by-committee Tuesday after using about six in Monday’s losing opener. kdgordon Hate to see LSU trending…Do even they have internet access in Baton Rouge yet? We’ll get you tomorrow! Hook ‘em Horns! joshbelt Repenting of all the cuss words flying off in my head. My horns disappoint me yet again.
