US National soccer forward Charlie Davies injured in car accident
Just day after the US Men’s National soccer team clinched a trip to South Africa for the World Cup in 2010, the team’s bright young star, Charlie DaviesĀ suffered serious injuries in a fatal car accident.
Davies was listed in serious but stable condition Tuesday after suffering a broken right leg and left elbow, and other internal injuries in the single-car accident. The accident killed 22-year-old Ashley Roberta and a third passenger was not identified.
His injuries are not life-threatening, but may keep Davies out of the World Cup in June.
Tweeters around the globe rallied behind the striker to wish him a speedy recovery and expressed sympathy with the family of Roberta:
