LSU took down SEC rival Arkansas in the afternoon, making up for last night’s rainout, while Texas won in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the ninth setting up the finale, per NCAA.com.

Skip Bertman is no longer in the dugout coaching four teams to championships like he did throughout the 90s, but the LSU baseball legacy still lingers in Omaha.

The Tigers have now won all eight games they’ve played this postseason and most have not been close. The Friday afternoon matchup against the Razorbacks was no different as LSU held an 11-0 lead after seven innings.

Texas 4, Arizona State 3

You couldn’t ask for a better game.

No. 1 Texas couldn’t ask for a better result.

After Arizona State took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth with just a half inning to go, the Longhorns ended the game in style by hitting back-to-back homeruns to walk-off with the win and advance to face LSU.

Arizona State’s Zach Wilson hit a triple in the top of the ninth inning, plating Jason Kipnis from second to give the energetic Sun Devils a lead with the hopes of a win and a deciding rematch Saturday.

But with two outs on the scoreboard, Longhorns’ catcher Cameron Rowe tied the score with a solo homerun to center then watched from the dugout as teammate Connor Rowe launched a change-up to left field for the walk-0ff homer.

Rup ran around the bases with his helmet held in the air before being mobbed by teammates at home plate.

Omaha bleacher bums out in full force on a beautiful night

The Cavs, first timers to Omaha, left runners on third base with less than two outs over the final four innings of the game, while the Razorbacks came from down 3-1 to win on outfielder Andrew Darr’s RBI-double in the top of the 12th.

In the top of the ninth, Arkansas center fielder Brett Eibner hit a two-out, two-run homerun to tie the game, but the College World Series (@CWS2009) drama was far from over.

In the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded and a 3-0 count on a Virginia batter, Arkansas pitcher Dallas Keutchel threw what appeared to be a pitch outside and high for a ball, but the umpire gave him a fortuitous strike call.

One pitch later, Keutchel was out of the jam on a hard-hit 6-4-3 double play.

Virginia (49-15-1) ends their surprising season ranked as high fifth in the country.

The Razorbacks (40-23) will square off again with undefeated LSU (53-16) on Friday afternoon, having lost 9-1 to the Tigers in Monday’s contest.

On the first day at the College World Series from Rosenblatt Stadium, the conference provided a two winners– Arkansas over Cal State Fullerton, and LSU over Virginia, per NCAA.com.

In the first game of the CWS (@CWS2009) during the afternoon, lower-seeded Arkansas (@ArkRazorbacks) scored five runs in the fourth inning behind a two-single  from Scott Lyons and a three-run homer from Andy Wilkins– all with two outs.

The Tigers (@LSUsports) continued their dominance in the post-season by hitting two homeruns during the fifth inning– one a three-run shot by Sean Ochinko– to pick up a win over the Cavaliers in the Saturday nightcap.

Arkansas (40-22) will face off with LSU (52-16) in the winner’s bracket on Monday night, while Fullerton (47-15) must face Virginia (48-14-1) at 2 p.m. on the same day.
